Gabriela Cuevas appointed government representative for the 2026 World Cup

Gabriela Cuevas, alumna of the Political Science Undergraduate Program at ITAM, she was appointed representative of the organization of the 2026 World Cup. Mexico will be co-host of the event, along with USA and Canada, that will take place from June 11th to July 19th of 2026. 

Mexico will host 13 matches, including the inaugural game at Azteca Stadium in Mexico City, that will hold 5 games. Another four games will be held at Akron Stadium in Guadalajara and at BBVA Stadium in Monterrey, respectively. 

During the announcement, the president said that the appointment of Cuevas will be honorary, with symbolic support, and that she will work together with the Ministry of Tourism and other institutions to ensure the success of the event.

Gabriela Cuevas has a wide trajectory in the public service, which includes being local and federal representative, senator and Head of the Miguel Hidalgo Delegation. She also served as advisor at the Undersecretary of Social Communication of the Secretary of Government (2000-2001). 

Her experience will be key to coordinate the Federal Government’s efforts during this important sporting event, which will position Mexico as a key destination in the international stage.
